Tasting Note
Bernard Baudry Chinon La Croix Boissée 2018 is deep, aromatic, and beautifully structured. Layers of black raspberry, plum skin, cassis, and dried violets unfold alongside graphite, tobacco leaf, and crushed stone. The palate is concentrated yet elegant, showing firm but refined tannins, vibrant acidity, and a long, mineral-driven finish. Complex, savoury, and intensely expressive, this is Cabernet Franc at its most serious and age-worthy.
About the Winery, Production & Critical Reputation
Bernard Baudry is one of Chinon’s benchmark domaines, celebrated for its organic farming and meticulous, terroir-focused winemaking. La Croix Boissée comes from one of the estate’s top limestone-rich sites, producing Cabernet Franc with remarkable tension, depth, and longevity. The 2018 vintage in the Loire delivered ripe, powerful wines, and Baudry crafted a standout expression that perfectly balances richness with the region’s signature freshness. Critics frequently score La Croix Boissée in the mid-90s, praising its structure, precision, and cellar potential. Many consider it one of Chinon’s greatest wines—a Grand Cru–level expression of Loire Cabernet Franc.
